COVID Guidelines as of May 23, 2025

In the current public health landscape, the wellbeing of our community remains our top priority. As we prepare for camps, we will monitor guidance and recommendations from the medical community to determine what protocols we will have in place regarding COVID-19 and any other relevant communicable illness.

Up-to-date vaccinations for COVID-19 are recommended but not required for all CDSS camp sessions. Up to date means you have received at least one booster within one year of the start of your camp session.

Please note that testing and masking protocols may vary by camp location. Protocols may be amended as the camp session draws near. It is important that all campers read email communications leading up to camp to know what to expect when you arrive. If you have questions or feedback about these guidelines, please email camp@cdss.org.

Pre-Camp Precautions

  • Recommended: To reduce the likelihood of bringing infection to camp, we ask that campers wear masks in any indoor public setting the week prior to camp.

Testing

  • Recommended: Test 24-48 hours prior to arrival at camp, ideally before you start your travels.
  • Required: Perform a self-administered rapid antigen in the 4 hrs before you arrive at camp. Be prepared to show a negative test or photo upon arrival.
    • If you are riding the van from the airport, please test before boarding the van.
  • As needed: If conditions change or anyone tests positive at camp, CDSS may require additional rounds of testing. CDSS will supply these tests to campers.

Masking

  • Masking is up to the individual. If conditions change or anyone tests positive at camp, masking in shared spaces may be required.
  • Recommended: Bring a supply of high-filtration masks (N-95, KN-95, etc) to use as needed

For sessions at Pinewoods Camp

Pre-Camp Precautions

  • To reduce the likelihood of spreading infection, we recommend that campers wear masks in any indoor public setting the week prior to camp.
  • By attending camp, campers and staff agree to the points on the Pinewoods Camp, Inc. (PCI) Attestation. If you are not able to say “yes” to each point, please contact the CDSS office (camp@cdss.org) for a conversation before arriving.

Testing

  • NEW FOR 2025! Pinewoods will provide all COVID-19 tests while at Camp
  • Recommended: Test 24-48 hours prior to arrival at camp, and we strongly encourage testing prior to departing for Camp, especially for those traveling long distances.
  • Required: Self-administered rapid antigen test upon arrival at camp
    • Pinewoods will have tests available upon arrival, however, campers may opt to test (using their own tests) up to three hours prior to arrival to expedite the check-in process.
  • Required: Follow-up rapid antigen tests 24 and 48 hours after arriving at camp
  • As needed: Additional testing may be implemented due to increased COVID-19 transmission levels or emergence of a more severe variant.

Masking

  • Recommended: Masks are optional, however they are strongly encouraged for the first 24 hours of each session. In this community, masks are welcome for as long as an individual wants or needs to wear them.
    • If conditions change or anyone tests positive at camp, masking will be required.
  • Required: Please bring a supply of high-filtration masks (N-95, KN-95, etc) in case COVID-19 conditions change and wearing masks is required.
  • As Needed: If any campers test positive for COVID-19, campers, staff, and crew may be required to wear high-filtration masks. Campers may be asked by Pinewoods Camp Inc. (PCI) to wear high-filtration masks whenever engaging in any camper jobs in the kitchen or dining hall, at PCI’s discretion
