James Williamson

James Williamson (viola da gamba, cello) performs on all sizes of viols, as well as baroque cello and voice. He has been heard with the Arion Baroque Orchestra, Studio Musique Ancienne de Montréal, and the Boston Camerata, and was formerly a core member of the viol consort Long & Away. As a vocalist he is part of the professional octet for the choir of Christ Church Anglican Cathedral in Montreal, and was a member of the the choir of Church of the Advent in Boston, a group that specializes in renaissance polyphony. James has led and taught at workshops by the Viola da Gamba Society of New England and has been on the faculty of the VdGSA Conclave. He holds a Master of Music in Early Music Performance from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, where his mentors included Phoebe Carrai and Jane Hershey.
