Mary Springfels (viola da gamba, citole) is a veteran of the American early music movement. She began her long career as a member of the New York Pro Musica, and is still performing with the Folger Consort, Ars Lyrica (Houston), the Texas Early Music Project (Austin), and co-directs Severall Friends, a flexible collection of performers based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This summer, Severall Friends will be appearing as a main stage event at the Berkeley Early Music Festival. Mary has been an active teacher in the VdGSA Circuit Rider program, and has been a faculty member at VdGSA Conclaves for decades.
