Sonya lives in Barre, VT, and splits her time renovating an old house with her partner Joe, and traveling around the country as a prescribed fire module leader with The Nature Conservancy. She grew up dancing and singing at CDSS family weeks at Buffalo Gap in West Virginia and has been attending CDSS camps for 30 years.
Sonya first learned to call and organize dances 15 years ago while a student at Oberlin College, where she helped run a monthly student-run dance and annual Dandelion Romp dance weekend. She is the secretary for the Pinewoods Camp board of directors, a member of the Terpsichore’s Holiday organizing committee, and a co-Program Director of CDSS’s American Dance & Music Week at Pinewoods.
Sonya loves all forms of dancing, harmony singing, and is slowly learning to play some chords, too. You’ll nearly always find her smiling, talking about restoring fire regimes, or swimming in the pond (and often all at the same time).
