“Great choreography is not a bunch of tricks strung together. Great choreography is unexpected and unique movement that stirs emotion.”

August 14, August 21, August 28
Three consecutive 2 hour online classes, 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT
Explore the art of dance writing with master caller and choreographer Scott Higgs.
Creating original dances is exciting, challenging, and fun! Join Scott Higgs in exploring the choreographer’s toolkit—learning how to shape your creative ideas into satisfying new dances. This is a “hands-on” workshop. As a small group, our class will collaborate on devising a dance together. In addition, each participant is strongly encouraged to work on a personal choreography. Each Saturday, we’ll share our “in-progress” creations to exchange ideas, troubleshoot, and fine-tune. Enrollment is limited to 12 people to ensure active participation.
This workshop welcomes both experienced choreographers and those who are just beginning. Classes will be held for three consecutive Saturdays, beginning August 14 at 1:00 p.m. ET. To register, click the “Register Now” button below, or log into CDSS Commons and select “Programs” from the blue menu bar. If you have any issues with accessing the registration form or logging CDSS Commons, please email camp@cdss.org.

Scott has composed dozens of dances in a range of styles, collected in a recent book Key to the Cellar, co-authored with Jenny Beer. Scott’s choreographies have been enjoyed all across the U.S. and Europe, and selected for reprinting in anthologies in the U.S. and the U.K.
