Amelia MasonAmelia Mason is a Boston-based fiddler and third-generation morris dancer. Her formal folk education began at age 11, when she asked for Irish fiddle lessons and her mother signed her up to study with renowned Scottish fiddler Laura Risk, figuring she wouldn’t know the difference. But Amelia was hooked. As a teen, she studied with admired New England fiddler Lissa Schneckenburger and began playing for contra dances. Eventually, she put down her instrument and went to college, where she majored in English, which turned out to be surprisingly useful. But the fiddle’s siren call was never far from her ears.

For more than a decade Amelia has toured internationally (Canada!) with her contra dance band, Anadama, and remains an in-demand morris and sword musician in Boston. She currently dances with Muddy River Morris, the second-oldest women’s morris side in America, and has performed internationally (England!) as both a dancer and musician with Maple Morris, Ten Hill Morris and Candyrapper VSOP. She spends her days hanging out with her cat and writing about arts and culture.
